We had won ton, special won ton, and shanghai noodles. I think it was chicken but sure didn't taste like it. Not a good experience. We have added this spot to our top five places in Red Deer.
Very reasonable dinner for two which can feed three, waitress was very frendly. We have tried all the Chinese joints in town and this one is the winner!
We decided to try take out from Red Star Restaurant based on the many favourable reviews on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately I can not add a good review as everyone from our group agreed that it was the worse Chinese food that anyone has had.
The ginger beef was tough and chewy and so was the orange chicken. The orange sauce looked and tasted like a soya sauce base, not orange.
The egg rolls were not much bigger than spring rolls, and the filling was basically flavourless mush with no discernible textures.
The meat in the chicken chop suey was poor quality and the dish was watery and tasteless. Flights Vacation Rentals Restaurants Things to do.

Red Star Chinese Restaurant, Red Deer. See all restaurants in Red Deer. Red Star Chinese Restaurant Claimed. Though the back-and-forth pattern of fighting a gang of enemy soldiers and then blasting your way through some giant boss fight eventually becomes a little predictable, it ultimately staves off the monotony that often plagues both shooters and beat-'em-ups.
The levels in The Red Star aren't particularly long, and the game is actually pretty generous with how it ramps up the difficulty, but the pacing is unyielding, and when the game gets hard, it is merciless.
You've got but one life bar with which to complete each level, and while you'll usually get a little first-aid kit after each of your big shooter encounters, it's not uncommon to get most of the way through a level just to get smoked and have to do the whole thing over again.
The game isn't sadistic about it, but having to replay a full level several times can still prove a bit frustrating. Still, when you do finally get past that one boss fight that you've been banging your head against, it's supremely satisfying.
The quality of the gameplay more than compensates for the game's technically average appearance. While the gameplay concepts in The Red Star aren't particularly new, the way they're assembled is smart and refreshing.
As much fun as The Red Star is to play, the presentation is serviceable, but it doesn't really pop. Ours is a difficult battle and cannot be otherwise, because our ideals are lofty.
But if it were easy, brothers, would it even be worth talking about? Removed from the collective of millions of working people and from the chain of generations, [the worker] The individual in isolation cannot understand politics, where the clash of collective forces gives rise to enormously complex relations.
When he falls in love, it will prove stronger than he is. Exertion is merely the means, while the idea is the highest goal. The supreme essence of an ida consists in its logical nature.
Man knows no greater happiness than to feel himself a vital part of a mighty, all-encompassing impulse. The idea of freedom was such a universally sensed impulse.
Daring explorers Utopias are an expression of aspirations that cannot be realized The idea of freedom was true because it led mankind to victory, to an enrichment of life that is the ultimate goal of all labor.
Mankind moves on and sets itself new goals Often one idea kills another one; thus freedom nullifies authority, scientific thought kills religion, and new theories replace old ones.
As for our President, in his famous book he wrote: ' Everything will be submerged in eternity. Only the truth will remain, because it alone is eternal.
And it is eternal because it is immutable. Your name and your body and your chain of memories will all disappear.
In the infinity of mighty, living Being, what you loved more than yourself - your work - will survive. We could not completely conquer time and space.
What is dear to us instead is all that has been accomplished by our united efforts though thousands of centuries: our power over the elements, our understanding of nature, the beauty of life that we have created.

A major part of the book is like the 19th century "guided tour of the future" utopian fiction. However, there is more plot and characters than those tended to have.
It does have a short-coming similar to the original Star Trek series in which several top crew members are indispensable in doing every kind of task.
For those interested in socialist speculations, this is an important portrait. One interesting point is the importance in this society of maintaining and analyzing data to reallocate resources and optimize the functioning of society.
One point which does not seem to have bothered readers who wanted to believe back when the book first came out: The premise is a well-established socialist society on Mars.
It's explicitly stated in the book that different conditions distinct to Mars resulted in the establishment of a single, worldwide socialist society with less difficulty than was realistic for Earth.
After all the years since Red Star's publication, readers may not find this as insignificant. A significant historical note is that one discussion in the book mentions the possibility that one or a few isolated socialist nations surrounded by hostile capitalist nation might become distorted under the pressures.
Some believe something like this describes what happened to the USSR. Perhaps, some other explanation is needed to explain how later Communist nations followed the same pattern from their birth.
May 02, Janine rated it really liked it Recommends it for: Keli. This is one of my favorite books. Written by Alyaksandr Malinouski, more commonly known as Alexander Bogdanov.
A work of science fiction about a socialist utopia on Mars. UK IT book club choice for December. But mercifully short and James did remind me that this book was written around the time of the Russian revolution, so pretty forward thinking.
Aug 18, Jonathan rated it really liked it Shelves: novella , sf , soviet , literature , read Red Star is from With good reason, I first heard of Bogdanov in Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars.
This novella tells of a utopian civilization on Mars after a revolution. As an article of science fiction, it has some pretty accurate predictions and the influence is clearly felt in other early utopian SF and the works of Ursula K LeGUin.
As a novel, it was slow, but as a creative Red Star is from As a novel, it was slow, but as a creative product of historical ideology: 5 stars.
Matching this in other media, I watched the silent Soviet SF film, Aelita. Another Mars utopia. It misses the milestone of true visual revolutionary art with too many lengthy scenes of the bloody bourgeois having diner parties!
Jul 09, Brendan rated it it was ok. Oct 16, Brook rated it liked it. Good primitive AFTER from the early 20th century, similar to Gilman's Herland or Bellamy.
Oct 02, Rachel rated it it was ok Shelves: university , unfinished. As some insight into historical ideology, Red Star is great I guess.
But as a novel, not good. I skipped through and just found what I needed for my homework View 2 comments. Aug 13, Glass River marked it as fic-guided.

Bogdanov trained as a doctor. Contact with poor patients led him to embrace Bolshevism; at the time of writing Red Star he and Lenin were comrades-in-arms.
As a physician, Bogdanov undertook useful research into blood transfusion — an act which had Socialist symbolism for him. He died, in , experimenting on himself with blood donations from an infected patient.
I was wrong. The structure of this book is uniquely situated so that each chapter reads like a short story, and those short stories follows the plague!
There are characters who reappear as the story develops, but the main driving force of this book is The Wrack itself, and it is neat to see how it develops as the story unfolds!
That said there is one chapter in particular that just gripped my heart featuring a beautiful soul of a person who finds themself isolated in the desert.
For me the ending of a story really matters. With the structure of this story it can be tricky to end a story like this but the author pulls it off masterfully.
There are five copies being given away free! Details on that are found here. Seriously I hope you give this book a read! You can find it on GoodReads and on Amazon and I think you will really enjoy it.
It is a bright star in the sky worth noticing. I have arbitrarily decided to end the first season of the RedStarReviews podcast and commence a new season!
There are several reasons for this. One is that I figured out how the season and episode numbering system worked! That might be the primary reason.
But after twenty episodes it felt right to step back, examine what I am doing, and start in a fresh way! The podcast is the creative joy of my book reading and reviewing life!
It is so much fun for me in so many ways. It allows me the creative outlet of teaching and public speaking that I have missed since leaving behind that aspect of my life.
It encourages deeper studies into topics of interest for me, and above all else it creates deep and meaningful connections between me and those that listen and interact.
It means so much to me that people take time out of their days to listen, and I will always be thankful and respectful of that!
Then if you want to take a deeper dive there is always season one to go back and enjoy at your leisure. My goal is as it always was to have two episodes produced and released a month.
I am excited for what is to come. I really hope you give the podcast a listen. Thank you all. I hope everyone has a great day.
